Mire House is dreary, cold and infested with midges. But when Emma Dean inherits it, she immediately feels a sense of belonging. It isn't long before Charlie Mitchell, grandson of the original owner, appears claiming an interest in his long-lost relative. But when she starts seeing ghostly figures, Emma begins to wonder: is Charlie trying to scare her away, or are there darker secrets lurking in the corners of Mire House?

I was unsure about the book as this is an unknown genre to me. However the way the author subtly sets the scene and her almost poetic prose drew me in. The plot was relatively complex but it fitted together by the end. Great twist, very unexpected which is always good. Overall a great read by an author that really can write. Sad story that stayed with me after I had finished it.

Marvellous book - I loved it. The stories were woven together so well with a twist at the end. Very very good indeed, quite the best ghost story I have read for quite some time. Reminiscent of The Woman in Black.....
